Top 20 high school students from Gaza
Academic Year ( 8 months)
During the 2023-2024 academic year, thousands of students from Gaza were deprived of their normal educational life due to the genocide faced by Palestinians in Gaza. Many young men and women were forced to leave Gaza in search of safety and hope for life until this brutal genocide stops. The project aims to provide 20 scholarships for the top 20 high school students from Gaza who were forced to leave the region and had the opportunity to take high school exams during the current academic year as part of the emergency plan by the Palestinian Ministry of Education. Students will be selected based on criteria ensuring fair selection in cooperation with the Palestinian Ministry of Education. Beneficiaries must study in countries that do not allow students to stay after graduation, such as Egypt, Malaysia, Indonesia, and others, to ensure their return to Gaza to contribute positively to the reconstruction of institutions in Gaza.

Secondly: Project Background
Due to the genocide in Gaza and the internal displacement of over 1.9 million
Palestinians within Gaza, some young men and women managed to leave for various
reasons, including accompanying an injured relative or through paid coordination,
escaping death in search of hope and security until the aggression stops.
Among these survivors were dozens of high school students who took their exams
exceptionally simultaneously with students in the West Bank as part of the Palestinian
Ministry of Education’s emergency plan.
High school education in Palestine is highly regarded, as success in it is a prerequisite for university admission. Approximately 40,000 students take the high school exams each year. According to the Palestinian Ministry of Education, 38,000 students from Gaza were deprived of taking their exams this year due to the genocide and massive destruction of educational institutions. Meanwhile, 1,320 students from Gaza who left during the war took their exams in countries like Egypt and Turkey, facing psychological, financial, and health difficulties. The project aims to meet these students’ needs, ensuring they receive a quality education as a human right and a global sustainable development goal (ensuring inclusive and quality education for all and promoting lifelong learning). The project will provide 20 scholarships for the top high school students from Gaza for the 2023-2024 academic year to enable them to continue their education, reduce university dropout rates among high achievers due to the genocide, and provide opportunities to study needed specialties for Gaza, improving the quality of higher education graduates in Palestinian society.
